The Healing Touch

This year, on the day of Holi, while people around us were celebrating with colours, our world turned upside down. My wife, who had been experiencing complications for the past few months, suddenly became completely bedridden with unbearable pain caused by bulging of the L3 and L4 vertebrae. We had already been consulting orthopedic and neuro specialists, underwent MRI scans and also visited Physiotherapist. Doctors advised her complete bed rest along with medication. The doctors also warned us that if there was no improvement, surgery might be the only option. We were left deeply worried and uncertain about what to do next.

Then, on the advice of many well-wishers, we visited Assam Ayurvedic Medical College Hospital at Guwahati. There we met a wonderful doctor – Dr. Jayanta Sarmah, who is also an Assistant Professor of that Medical College. He patiently listened to us, checked all her reports, and confidently asked us to admit her, assuring recovery through Ayurvedic treatment "Panchakarma".

To our surprise, within 2–3 days, her pain started reducing. She could slowly sit up within a week, and with time, she could stand on her feet. That was almost like a miracle for us. Now, she has started walking slowly again. This treatment felt nothing short of a blessing from heaven.

Dr. Jayanta Sarmah, who was awarded as "The Best Doctor" in 2024, is not only a skilled doctor but also a truly kind human being. His humble nature, polite behaviour, and dedication to each patient touched our hearts deeply. We are forever grateful to him. To anyone suffering from similar pain or spinal problems, I strongly recommend visiting Assam Ayurvedic Medical College Hospital at Guwahati.

However, I would also like to share one honest opinion. Though the treatment and care given by the doctors here are excellent, the hospital infrastructure really needs improvement. We were admitted to a cabin room, but it was not up to the expected standard. The same goes for the general wards. The rooms need better maintenance and cleanliness. Basic facilities should be improved for the comfort of the patients and their attendants.

I have seen many people from different corners of Assam coming here with hope and going back home with a healing touch. This shows how trusted and effective the treatment here is. The doctors are doing a wonderful job with dedication and compassion. But to support their noble work, the environment around them also needs to be better.

I sincerely appeal to the Government of Assam to take initiative to upgrade the infrastructure of Assam Ayurvedic Medical College Hospital at Jalukabari, Guwahati. With better facilities, the doctors can serve even more efficiently, and patients will feel more safe and comfortable during their stay. This hospital has great potential to become a top healing center with a blend of tradition and care. It just needs some support to shine brighter. Thank you doctors.
🙏
